The VA furnishes, upon request, free government headstones or markers to mark the unmarked grave of an eligible veteran in any cemetery worldwide.
By law, they are not to be used as footstones and not to double mark one gravesite.
They are provided for eligible spouses and dependents of veterans only when buried in a national military post/base or state veterans cemetery. Spouses/dependents buried in private cemeteries are not eligible.
Choices:

Flat bronze, granite or marble markers or upright granite and marble headstones.

Style must be consistent with existing monuments at the place of burial.

Niche markers are available to mark columbaria used for inurnment of cremated remains.
